2022 AI Day; Tesla Bot humaniod First Prototype Optimus show off viability of humanoids replacing human labour
Tesla CEO Elon Musk showcased his much-touted humanoid robot “Optimus” at the company’s 2022 AI Day event on Friday September 30th, 2022. A prototype of the robot walked on stage and waved to the seated audience. A video of Optimus prototype carrying a box, watering plants and moving metal bars in the automaker’s factory was shown.
The billionaire has said a robot business will be worth more than its cars, hoping to expand beyond self-driving vehicles that have not yet become a reality despite his repeated promises. the Tesla Bot Optimus prototype demonstration has been unveiled in the video below.
Musk said currently humanoid robots were “missing a brain”, saying they don’t have the intelligence to navigate the world by themselves, and they were also very expensive and made in low volume.
By contrast, he said, Optimus would be an “extremely capable robot”, to be made in very high volume – ultimately millions of units – and it was expected to cost much less than a car, at under $20,000 as he said on the 2022 AI Day.
Musk was also expected to discuss Tesla’s long-delayed self-driving technology.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has claimed before that in the long run people will think of Tesla as an AI company, rather than a car company or energy company. He has said that Tesla AI may play a role in computers matching general human abilities; a huge milestone many experts say is decades away and perhaps unattainable. Musk, who has a long history of predictions, has said it may be reached in 2029.
Musk said Thursday that 2022 AI Day would be “highly technical” as it is meant for recruiting engineers to work on artificial intelligence, robotics and computer chips. Stating in a tweet “Engineers who understand what problems need to be solved will like what they see,”
