Tesla Model Y is a fully electric small crossover SUV built by Tesla, Inc with seating for five passengers. An optional third row increases seating capacity to seven. The Tesla Model Y is essentially a raised SUV version of the Model 3, with the same blend of great range and Tesla’s brilliant global charging network, but it can be annoying that everything is controlled through the touchscreen
The Tesla Model Y is an electric SUV that is a cutting-edge alternative to models such as the BMW iX3, Audi Q4 e-tron and Mercedes EQB. The co-founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk leads all product design, engineering and global manufacturing of the company’s electric vehicles, battery products and solar energy products.
The Model Y is based on the Model 3 sedan platform. It shares an estimated 75 percent of its parts with the Tesla Model 3, which includes a similar interior and exterior design and electric powertrain. The Model Y fills a smaller and less expensive segment than the mid-sized Tesla Model X. Like the Model X, the Model Y offers optional third-row seats for a seven-passenger seating capacity.
Unveiled in March 2019, it started production at its Fremont Factory in January 2020, and started deliveries on March 13, 2020. In the first quarter of 2023, the Model Y outsold the Toyota Corolla to become the world’s best-selling car, the first ever electric vehicle to claim the title

FEATURES OF TESLA MODEL Y
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Rear-wheel drive Standard Range models with the 19-inch wheels carry driving range estimates as high as 260 miles. The all-wheel-drive Long Range offers 330 miles of range; the Performance model’s estimated range drops to 303 miles. But the latter comes with 20-inch wheels, a lowered suspension, a higher top speed (155 mph), quicker claimed acceleration, and a dedicated Track mode
CONTROL SCREEN
Like every other Tesla including the Model 3, the Model Y has a giant infotainment screen dominating the dashboard, and very little in the way of physical switchgear. The screen is in a landscape style (rather than portrait), is 15 inches in size and used to control almost all the car’s systems – even the door mirrors. It takes a bit of getting used to, but is one of the best screens on the market in terms of graphics and response.
TESLA APP
Instead of using a key, you access the Tesla using your phone and you can send electronic keys to friends and family for car sharing. That’s done using the Tesla app, which also allows you to heat and cool the car before you get in it, track the car’s location and even limit its top speed.
SUMMON MODE
Summon Mode is by far the cleverest feature, though. It means the Model Y will be able to drive out of its parking space and meet you, autonomously.
PERFORMANCE
That said, most of the time you’ll want to do the driving – if only to experience the Tesla’s ludicrous acceleration. The top-end Performance version can get from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 150mph.
SUPER CHARGING NETWORK
the Model Y will have access to Tesla’s comprehensive and reliable Supercharger charging network. The latest 250kW Superchargers will add 75 miles of range to the Model Y in just five minutes, while 15 minutes of charging will add 158 miles.
PRICE OF TESLA MODEL Y
The Tesla Model Y has a RRP range of £44,990 to £59,990. Prices start at £44,990 if paying cash. Monthly payments start at £461. The price of a used Tesla Model Y on carwow starts at £40,700.
Tesla Inc. has raised the initial price of its popular Model Y SUVs in the United States for the third time within the last two months. This increase amounts to an additional $250 being added to the base model’s price.
The starting price for the base model of the Model Y has now been adjusted to $47,740. However, the prices for the long-range and performance versions of the vehicle remain unchanged from their previous levels.
The 2023 Model Y starts at USD 47,490 (approx. ₹39,00,00), considerably more than the 2023 Corolla (USD 21,550) and RAV4 (USD 27,575).
